Predictive analytics brings “Moneyball” approach to location-based business decisions

DENVER – October 24, 2017MapVida, the Denver-based data and predictive analytics company that improves decision-making for marketers, real-estate developers and investors, was named to Startup50.com Big50 Top Startups in Tech

To earn a spot in the Big 50, startups completed a series of exhaustive questionnaires, built a following through online voting, and demonstrated viability through a series of tests and challenges. In all, more than 210 startups applied to be considered for the Big 50-2016.

“The startups in the Big50-2017 faced the most rigorous competition yet, fighting their way through new and more difficult challenges,” said Jeff Vance, founder and Editor-in-Chief of Startup50. “This lineup is in a good position to follow in the footsteps of previous Big50 startups, many of whom have gone on to raise massive rounds of funding or have achieved successful exits, whether through IPOs or high-dollar acquisitions.”

“MapVida has created a set of highly-scalable data-backed business tools that are changing the way companies make decisions, invest, plan and grow,” said Mike Mauseth, MapVida co-founder.  “Instead of relying on a gut feeling or one-dimensional approach to make decisions, MapVida applies data science that uncovers how businesses and consumers fit within a community, providing specific, actionable look-a-like neighborhood types and comparisons across any city or around the country.”

MapVida’s algorithms evaluate millions of data points to define the relative look and feel of a neighborhood based on six key factors:

  • Who lives there (e.g. married vs. single, commuters vs. walkers, discretionary spending, etc.)
  • Real estate types (e.g. single-family vs. multifamily, home size, property age, housing affordability)
  • Businesses in the area (e.g. retail and restaurant types, employer size)
  • Macro and infrastructure factors (e.g. crime data, school quality, transportation)
  • Geospatial and environmental factors (e.g. parks, water quality, hiking access)
  • More than 15-years of trending data (e.g. how much has the area changed over time.)
